Easy Video Website wins the 'Doing Access Differently Award' at
the RADAR People of the Year Awards 2009
The Promote the Vote website
made by Liverpool's Easy-Read-Online Limited has won the
prestigious 'Doing Access differently Award' from Radar ( Royal Association for Disability Rights)
at the Radar People
of the Year awards on 30th November 2009.
Presented by John Bercow MP, the speaker of the House of Commons,
the award recognises the importance of enabling People with
Learning Disabilities to take part in the electoral process.
The Promote the Vote website uses the innovative way to make
websites accessible to people with learning difficulties - by
making all the information available to people who cannot read
through video clips - made by people with learning difficulties
themselves.
The Promote the Vote website was made with a group of people with
learning difficulties from Speaking Up in Cambridge.
It was the culmination of a project funded by the Electoral Commission to
encourage people with learning disabilities to take part in UK
elections.
The website includes information about the electoral process, registering to
vote, postal voting
and proxies, as well as going to a
polling station.
There are exercises, quizzes, examples of role play, links to political
parties, and lots of resources to help people find out
more, as well as detailed information about how to register for a
vote.
Previously The Promote the Vote site was given a Good Practice
award by Access-IT

Bristol and South Gloucestershire People First. Members of the
various People First projects talk about the work of their groups.

is easy for anyone who has difficulty in reading by visiting the
site at www.bsgpf.org.uk
Partnership Board websites move to their new homes
The Blackburn with Darwen Learning Disability Partnership Board
website has been formally launched and is now on it's final url :
www.bwdld.org.uk
The Solihull Learning Disability website is now available on www.ld.solihull.nhs.uk
On both these sites local people with learning difficulties give
all the content on video clips meaning that everyone can access the
information - whether you can read or not. The sites are designed
to be accessible and appealing to carers, professionals and people
with learning disabilities alike.
